4-Day Mount Meru Trek Itinerary

Trek Tanzania’s second-highest peak, Mount Meru, on a breathtaking 4-day journey. This adventure offers incredible wildlife, varied landscapes, and stunning sunrise views over Kilimanjaro from the summit. Ideal for acclimatization and nature lovers alike.

Itinerary Overview

Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

Altitude: 1,500m to 2,514m
Distance: 10km
Time: 4–6 hours
Begin the trek through Arusha National Park’s lush forest. Encounter giraffes, buffalo, and monkeys on your way to Miriakamba Hut for overnight stay.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

Altitude: 2,514m to 3,570m
Distance: 8km
Time: 3–5 hours
Ascend steadily through montane forest to Saddle Hut. Optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) in the afternoon.

Day 3: Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak & back to Miriakamba Hut

Altitude: 3,570m to 4,566m, then down to 2,514m
Distance: 16km
Time: 10–12 hours
Start your summit attempt at 2:00 AM. Reach Socialist Peak by sunrise and enjoy views of Kilimanjaro. Descend to Miriakamba Hut for overnight rest.

Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate

Altitude: 2,514m to 1,500m
Distance: 10km
Time: 2–4 hours
A gentle descent back through the forest. Transfer back to Arusha upon arrival at Momella Gate.
